Troop Guide ____________________, please rise.
You have worked with these candidates. Have they completed the requirements
for the rank of SCOUT? (Troop Guide answers, Yes!)
(The SPL will light a candle and give it to the Scoutmaster.)
This candle represents the Spirit of Scouting. As we welcome you into the
fellowship of Troop 2, we want you to stop and think what it means to be a
Boy Scout. It's a lot of fun to go hiking and camping and to sleep under
the stars, but more than that it's getting along with other people.
It's doing your part, helping others all the time, and learning to be
a leader when it's your turn. It's learning to live up to the Scout
Oath and Law. That's what the Spirit of Scouting means. Now, I would
like each of you to light a candle as you listen to the reading of
the Scout Law. (give the candle to the first scout)
(The assigned scouts will each read one of the 12 points of the Scout Law aloud.)
You have each heard the Scout Law. Will you do your best to live it?
(Candidates will answer, Yes!)
Now I'm going to ask you to say the Scout Oath with me, because
it is your oath, your promise to live the life of a Scout.
Scout Sign, On my honor I will do my best
to do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.
I would like to invite the parents of these Scouts
to come forward and assist me
with the presentation of the badges.
(give the badges to the parents to pin to the boys shirts)
Congratulations, and welcome to Troop 2.
